The City of Aransas Pass was founded in 1909 by a promotion of a great land lottery. It developed as a fishing village and the first shipment of shrimp to San Antonio was in 1912. At this time, it was the home port for about 300 large shrimp trawlers, which annually net millions of pounds of shrimp.
What is the difference between Port Aransas and Aransas Pass?
Port Aransas is a different city across Redfish Bay, connected to Aransas Pass via the Redfish Bay Causeway.
Are Port Aransas and Aransas Pass the same?
While our cities are very close by, they are quite different. Aransas Pass is mostly on the mainland, while Port Aransas is largely located on Mustang Island.
