Astoria As the oldest American settlement west of the Rocky Mountains, Astoria has close historical ties to the Lewis & Clark Trail. In 1811, John Jacob Astor, a New York financier, sent fur traders to the area and the trading post of Fort Astoria was established.
Additionally, Astoria is known for its picturesque coastal location, Victorian architecture, and being the filming location for the iconic movie "The Goonies." Furthermore, the city boasts a rich maritime heritage and is home to attractions such as the Columbia River Maritime Museum and the Astoria Column.
