History. Shi Shi (pronounced “shy shy”), is a Makah work meaning “surf beach” or “smelt beach” in reference to the fish that are common along this section of coast. Around 1894, prospectors discovered gold in the sand along the Olympic Coast, and the most productive area was Shi Shi Beach.

It's one of the best beaches on the Olympic Peninsula. The beach is two miles of sand bracketed by huge sea stacks and rocky cliffs at either end .

Shi Shi Beach is within the Olympic National Park. The landscape is out of this world it has rugged sea stacks that stick out of the ocean and perfectly contrast the sandy shoreline.

There are tide pools where you can search for crabs and other mysterious and funny looking marine wildlife. Your day on Shi Shi Beach will be a little different, it’s not the sort of place you come to sunbathe. But it is great for a scenic walk!

It's no wonder this unspoiled stretch was named “best nature beach” by The Travel Channel. Part of Olympic National Park and a popular camping area, Shi Shi (pronounced shy-shy) Beach is reached via a 3.3-mile forested trail featuring boardwalks and bridges.
